Born on 1978-09-23 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mackie is the son of Martha and Willie Mackie Sr., a carpenter who owned a roofing business. He attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1997, and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Juilliard School’s Drama Division in 2001. In 2014, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sheletta Chapital; the couple, who have four children, divorced in 2018.

Anthony Mackie is best known for his role as Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). He is also a licensed contractor and once owned a bar called NoBar in Brooklyn, New York. Additionally, he is dyslexic.
