Personal Life

Born on 1984-09-03 in Roseau, Minnesota, Garrett John Hedlund is of Swedish, Norwegian, and German descent. Raised on a remote cattle farm near Wannaska, Minnesota, he moved to Arizona in the ninth grade to live with his mother. During high school, he worked as a waiter, saving his tips to pay for acting lessons with coach Jean Fowler. Six months after graduating from Horizon High School, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Hedlund is known for roles in films such as Friday Night Lights (2004), Four Brothers (2005), Eragon (2006), Tron: Legacy (2010), On the Road (2012), Unbroken (2014), and Mudbound (2017). He received a nomination for the Black Reel Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Mudbound.
